Barrio del Carmen and around the old part of the city
Yesterday I saw a friend who I'd been tandeming with to learn Spanish. We met up with a few other Erasmus people from Gandia in the old part of the city (near Colon metro) - a really nice area with old buildings, small street pubs, etc. It was Sunday so it was pretty dead, but the pubs became busy at around 3 or 4am - spanish style!! I'll take some pictures next time I'm there, but here is a picture from Wiki...typically Spanish!
We went to 4 pubs I think - Bolseria and Radio City were two of them. Everytime we'd come out of a pub we'd get given cards with discounts for free cocktails and chupitos (shots) - chupitos and cerveza (beer) were among the words people learnt first!
At the moment there is a second Italian guy in the house, temporarily for two weeks or something...so at this rate I'll be learning more Italian! Actually the Spanish guy came back today, so the house has gone back to being Spanish speaking. I was trying to talk in Spanish with him - it's so easy to dig yourself a hole by saying something badly in Spanish, then continuing the sentence to make it make even less sense...but they like hearing you try.
Valencia Metro
The metro in Valencia is really easy to use - it's really quick to get from place to place as the city is quite small. I keep on using the Red line, which can take you all the way from the aeropuerto (airport in- land) to up and through the city. If anyone wants to visit me, you have to take the metro from the airport to Facultats metro, then walk 15 minutes down Blasco Ibanez street to my flat, or instead switch to the green line and get off at Amistad metro. I'm not sure whether the metro runs during the night - I heard it closes at 11pm or something, but apparantly it's open 24/7 during the summer. I took the metro at around 6:30am yesterday (don't ask), so I wonder what time it opens...
First day of Term (for some faculties)
So I wasn't sure whether to go to sleep after getting back home at 7am. I would have only had 1 hour sleep..., anyway I slept and ended up missing the enrollment period in the morning (10am to 1pm). Nobody told us this (Should I have expected help from anyone?!)
Universidad Politecnica de Valencia
The Uni looks amazing, check the photos:
I met my Spanish mentor during the afternoon so she could show me where the Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Faculty) was and ask about Spanish language courses. It was quite cool telling her what to say to someone else in Spanish haha -- my own little translator :D So now I have to wait until Wednesday to sort of my courses at the International Relations office, then there is an information meeting on the 4th for all the exchange students at the faculty.
Myself and another guy created a google map plotting all the addresses of erasmus students from the Gandia language course, so everyone can see where everyone else lives - there are still loads more people to add. Most people are within 5-10 minutes walking distance.
How is the less than 5 degrees in England?? - Here it's warm and sunny!
over and out...
